I get a lot of questions about using PLR (Private Label Rights) content on a blog. For those of you that aren't familiar with PLR, this is pre-written content that you can purchase and get complete rights to it, meaning that you can even add your own name to it as if you were the original author. There is a great deal of PLR content available online and on every topic imaginable, especially topics related to Internet marketing and blogging.
There are pros and cons to using this PLR material, so lets talk a little bit about that. On the pro side, there is a lot of extremely well written content available, it is usually very low priced, it saves you from having to write all of your content by yourself, and as I mentioned before, you can put your own name on it as if you were the original author. However, on the con side, you can be sure that many other marketers have also purchased this same content and have already published it on their site. Secondly, since this content will not be unique and original if you publish it as-is on your site, it won't help you get your site ranked favorably in the search engines.
Do I ever use PLR content on my websites and blogs? Yes, I certainly do, BUT…… I take the time to rewrite the content in my own words in order to make it unique. I want every page of my blog to have a good chance of getting a good position in the search engine results pages when someone searches for the keywords that I am targeting – and having well written, original content is the very best way of doing that. Sometimes I might take two or three closely related PLR articles and combine them into one blog post or piece of home page content for a niche web site.
There are many other uses for PLR content and you may be surprised at just how much PLR material you already have stored on your hard drive. We accumulate a lot of downloads over time from "giveaway events" and those "free reports" other marketers use to get your name and e-mail address, and the biggest percentage of these all come with PLR rights. I attended a webinar just the other day that showed how to take PLR articles, combine them into an e-book, and then publish that book on the Amazon Kindle website for sale to people that own the Kindle book reader. I put together two e-books just yesterday using nothing but PLR content and they are already approved and being published as I write this blog post. It isn't even necessary to re-write this content to make it original either since it won't be picked up by the search engines.
I urge you to keep an eye out for good PLR content where ever you may find it and save it to your hard drive. There may come a day when you need some ideas for a new blog post or need some content to add to your website, and those PLR articles are a great source for you to use.
